GAB Cheer
The Georgia Academy for the Blind did not have cheerleaders for many years, but thankfully the squad was reintroduced during the 2014-2015 school year. GAB’s mascot also got an update and the students and staff were asked to vote on a name for him. The winning name for GAB’s panther is Louie, after Louis Braille. The GAB cheerleaders and Louie participate every winter with 5 other schools for the blind and visually impaired at the SCASB (South Central Association of Schools for the Blind) competition. The SCASB rules have recently been revamped in order to keep the cheer rules and guidelines as close to the UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) as possible. There is a group routine which consists of both cheering and dancing, an individual routine, and a mascot routine. The cheerleaders cheer mat-side during the wrestling competition and at several school sponsored pep rallies to show off their GAB spirit!
